When Neighbourhoods GENTRIFY
gen·tri·fi·ca·tion
–noun
1. the buying and renovation of houses and stores in deteriorated urban neighborhoods by upper- or middle-income families or individuals, thus improving property values but often displacing low-income families and small businesses.
This blog post was intended to discuss one neighbourhood in general; Trinity Bellwoods. However, after doing some research I decided to focus on a broader topic that seemed to gain a lot more attention from local commenter’s out there…Gentrification: The Good – The Bad – and in this case, The Beauty.
When my fiancé and I bought our house in January 2007, we thought it was somewhat of a risk being on the west side of Dufferin, I mean who the heck really knew what loomed on the other side of the tracks or in our case “the Dufferin jog”? Never the less, we had hope that the area would continue to evolve into something much like Beaconsfield Village…families, working couples, cool stores and hidden gem hangouts.
